My Story

After years of guiding travelers from across the globe, I’ve come to realize one universal truth: food brings us together.
On this 3.5-hour tour, we’ll explore some of Lisbon’s most iconic neighborhoods and market squares, uncovering the city’s rich history through its flavors. From pastel de nata and bacalhau to ginjinha and other local delights, you’ll get to taste the best Lisbon has to offer.
And trust me, some of the best souvenirs in Portugal come in bottles!By the end of the experience, you’ll be full, happy, and maybe even a little tipsy!
Itinerary
Our tour begins at the city's most beloved café, where we'll taste a timeless sweet treat that has accompanied the Portuguese in their morning routine for generations. And no, it's not the famous pastel de nata, but a little secret that will win you over.
From there we'll head down toward Praça do Camões to reach Lisbon's oldest market, Mercado da Ribeira, with roots dating back to Roman times. Here we'll explore culinary excellence and enjoy an authentic Portuguese aperitif, perfect for preparing your palate for everything to come.
Walking through neighborhoods rich in history and traditions, we'll discover stories and flavors linked to distant eras, including those of the Inquisition.
We won't miss the famous codfish, the true symbol of Portuguese taste, presented in secret recipes passed down through generations. The walk concludes with a typical dessert and a relaxing digestif near Praça da Figueira, in the beating heart of Baixa Pombalina.

What's Included
Lisbon’s food tours offer a flavorful deep dive into Portuguese cuisine, bringing together history, tradition, and creativity in every bite. Guests commonly taste iconic local specialties such as pastel de nata (the famous custard tart), bacalhau dishes (often called Portugal’s national ingredient, with over 365 recipes involving cod), and grilled sardines, especially popular during the summer festivals.
Street food favorites like bifana (marinated pork sandwich) and prego (steak sandwich) are also local staples, usually served in fresh bread rolls with simple but delicious seasoning. Seafood features prominently, with arroz de marisco (seafood rice) and amêijoas à Bulhão Pato (clams with garlic, olive oil, and coriander) offering authentic ocean flavors. Many tours include cheese, chouriço sausage, and classic sweets such as convent cakes and Ginjinha (the traditional cherry liqueur).
Beyond tastings, guests often visit old markets, contemporary eateries, and even join hands-on experiences like cooking classes or meet local chefs to learn about Lisbon’s culinary culture firsthand. The city’s food scene blends tradition with innovation, as Michelin-starred restaurants reinterpret classics alongside humble neighborhood “tascas” where authenticity shines through every dish.
In summary, Lisbon’s food tours are all about savoring the city’s heritage plate by plate, discovering beloved recipes, modern twists, and the stories that make each meal unique.
