Historic Center and Ribeira

(8 hours)

Discover the true essence of Porto with a complete 8-hour tour that combines the vibrant heart of the city in the morning with the timeless atmosphere of Ribeira in the afternoon.

The tour begins at Avenida dos Aliados, one of the city’s most iconic avenues, the ideal starting point to dive into Porto’s history and soul. From here, we’ll explore some of its main attractions, such as the fascinating Churches of Carmo and Carmelitas,, symbols of faith, art, and urban legends.

We’ll continue toward the University of Porto, where we’ll talk about the great names of Portuguese and revolutionary literature, before reaching what many consider the most beautiful bookstore in the world: the Livraria Lello. Visited by millions every year, it is famous for its unique atmosphere and for its resemblance to certain scenes from the Harry Potter films. You’ll discover how Porto, its history, and its landmarks inspired the creation of the world’s most famous wizard.

Of course, we won’t miss the city’s true masterpiece, the Clérigos Tower and Church — the undisputed icons of Porto’s skyline.

We’ll then pass by the historic Cadeia da Relação do Porto, where we’ll tell stories of love, justice, and fates often sealed behind bars, observing how the administration of justice and its perception have evolved over the centuries.

Next, we’ll cross Porto’s most important Jewish Quarter, dating back to the 15th century, enjoying stunning viewpoints over the Douro River that will make the walk even more unforgettable. Descending toward Rua das Flores, we’ll reach the famous São Bento Station, celebrated for its beautiful azulejos and for the secrets hidden within this place of arrivals and departures, once a sacred space.

From there, we’ll head into the historic center, where we’ll stop for lunch before beginning the afternoon tour of Ribeira.

In the afternoon, we’ll start from Porto’s Cathedral (Sé do Porto) to uncover the origins of the city, which date back more than 2,500 years. We’ll immerse ourselves in medieval Porto, exploring its customs and traditions as we pass by the Palácio da Bolsa and Casa do Infante, birthplace of Prince Henry the Navigator. Here, we’ll reveal the secrets of the trade that made Porto an economic powerhouse, extending its influence far beyond the ocean.

The day concludes in the stunning Praça da Ribeira, at the foot of the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, where, with a bit of luck, we’ll admire a breathtaking sunset over the Douro River, the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience.
